JEOPARDY: Municipal edition
A political version of Jeopardy; an alternative to a debate style event featuring two events; Mayoral and Ward 7 editions. The event happened Sept 22 and 23 in Calgary, AB.
I designed the promotional website, marketing assets, and app for the game operator to use during the events.

Design
-
Option 1
A fun 90s vibrant theme where you might slimed for wrong answers. The idea was to have contestants wear 80s/90s apparel to make the event more fun versus just hosting a stuffy and forgettable debate.
-
Option 2
We eventually went with a more contemporary/conservative theme to put certain folks at ease who are uncomfortable with fun and felt the event required a more mature tone to attract a wider audience.
However, for the app design, we kept the vibrant palette.
Process
Whenever I start any project without a brand identity I try out a bunch of different typefaces, look at reference images, and explore colour palettes and combinations. I aim to feel out the vibe and see what resonates with the theme and concept.
I’ll do up a handful of variations and show the client who helps choose a direction. In this case I started with the vibrant Nickelodeon tone since I was told to go in a fun direction to align with a 90s theme and was inspired by slimy kid shows.
I designed a whole website with that aesthetic and after getting feedback from sponsors the client shifted course to a more mature tone to get more buy-in. The colourful theme feels more in line with the project concept but the more contemporary direction was more comfortable with a broader audience.
APP UI
I was given a sketch to work from that outlined the feature set. From there I went to Figma and built out a draft of the UI and polished it up based on feedback.
